How Often Do You Cast The First Stone?

Jesus and the Woman Caught in Adultery Some of my non-Christian friends have remarked that they don’t ever want to be Christians because they will turn into the most judgmental people on earth.

If someone does wrong according to the Word of God, many of us including myself can be, in the eyes of others, such nasty people who are quick to condemn and chastise, without thinking that we aren’t being good examples at all of God’s love and mercy, even unto us.

Just to sidetrack a little: Most times, when I am led to examine something in the Bible, I write them down and these then quite often become posts to remind myself of what I have learned.

A Greater Song

Paul Baloche It has been years since I have bought a single Gospel-oriented CD, but thanks to Shalene who has now earned the honor of being a great DJ (in my opinion at least), I added a new Gospel CD to my collection today.

Paul Baloche’s “A Greater Song”.

What drew me to Paul Baloche was the fact that I had the chance to sing one of his compositions “Your Name” at the church I visited on Shabbat a fortnight ago, and the song has become one of my favorites.

And when Shalene linked the YouTube version of it, I finally found out that Paul Baloche was the composer behind this wonderful song.

Above All — Meditation For The Shabbat

Lord Jesus, thou art

Above all powers, above all kings,
Above all nature and all created things.
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man,
You were here before the world began.

Above all kingdoms, above all thrones.
Above all wonders this world has ever known.
Above all wealth and treasures of the earth,
There’s no way to measure what you’re worth.

1 Colossians 1:16 (KJV) For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

1 Colossians 1:17 (KJV) And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

1 Colossians 1:18 (KJV) And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

1 Colossians 1:19 (KJV) For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

1 Colossians 1:20 (KJV) And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Shabbat Shalom.

Blessed Fellowship

Fellowship Dear Brother, Dear Sister,

I cannot even begin to describe how blessed I feel every time you leave me a comment with words of encouragement, or point me in the direction of truth, or join me in prayer.

Because since I started my blog in June, I have grown much in my faith in God and understanding of God’s Word, thanks to all your encouragement, support and most importantly, your friendship.

And it is amazing that though some of us are thousands of miles apart, there is so much common ground!

There are some people that I have never really thanked for all the encouragement and support that they have given me since day one, and I’d like to mention them here.

With a big, big hug, here’s my thanks to you all:

  • Casey at Casey’s Critical Thinking for all the encouragement and help. Thank you, brother, for even taking the time to help me troubleshoot problems with the blog crashing on some browsers.
  • ChannelofHealing at Channel of Healing for all the encouragement and kind words even when I thought some of my posts were rather drab.
  • Brian Gill at Apathetic Lemming of the North for his critique of my writing style, and the great tips he gave me on writing better.
  • TruthofmyKing at Wesley’s Blog for the encouragement and leading me to your blog where I learned much more about faith and God.
  • Harmony at At the Study for all the comments and discussions that spurred me to examine and learn more.

And here’s a big, big hug going out to you as well, for reading this blog, for commenting on my posts, for your prayers, for your blessings, for sharing your life with me, for teaching me, for encouraging me, and most of all, for your friendship.

Most of all, I thank God for blessing me with brothers, sisters and friends like you!

The Lord bless and guide you. The Lord bless and keep you in His love. The Lord give you His peace, which passes all understanding. Amen!

Shalom Aleichem.

Yes, I Am A Substance Abuser

CigarettesWriting about child abuse for the blogging event “Bloggers Against Abuse” prompted me to come clean about an aspect of my life that I am not really proud of.

I am a substance abuser.

In fact, to be brutally honest, there’s more than one substance — there’s tar, hydrogen cyanide, acetaidehyde, eugenol, formaldehyde, methanol, and a host of other chemicals.

They Know No Childhood

Stop The Abuse

Though I do not have children, nor consciously plan to have any, I am deeply concerned about the plight of children in parts of the world suffering from abuse, hunger, slavery and exploitation.

In the time you take to read this post, there would have been dozens of children around the world who would suffer all forms of abuse at the hands of people whom they thought loved them, and whom they had the utmost respect for.

And it all becomes a vicious cycle — research and studies have shown that children who have suffered one form of abuse or another are more likely to abuse both their own and other children when they themselves become adults.

About the most heinous form of abuse would be sexual abuse, because in as much as 90% of reported cases involving sexual abuse, the perpetrators are people that the child knows, trusts and respects.

Then there’s child labor and exploitation, where children in poor countries are lured, forcefully taken or worse, sold into all forms of slavery and into prostitution. Some are even taken away to far-flung places thousands of miles away from their homelands by human traffickers.

Yet many of us who should consider ourselves fortunate to be where we are today are not aware, or too apathetic to notice that we can help!

All it takes is just a dollar or two a day, and you will be helping to provide a child with his or her school fees, books, milk powder, food, and other essentials. You will also be helping to ensure that the child receives an education and has the potential to make the world a better place in future.

To borrow a cliche, children are indeed the future. What we choose to ignore or do something about today will greatly affect the future. And if we indeed wish to leave a better world to the next generation, we need to start caring now.

Here are some organizations that are able to use your donations to help break the poverty cycle, end abuse and ensure that these children under their care have a childhood (I am in no way affiliated to any of the organizations listed):

Paul, The Hypocrite?

Frans Francken II. Sabbath. Canvas. 1607 Daniel at Messy Pastor mentioned that in our zeal to observe the Sabbath on the proper day as sanctified by God, we shouldn’t fall into the danger of still being bonded by the old Laws as did the Galatians.

Previously, I have written quite a lot on the importance of observing the Sabbath on the seventh day of the week just as God had sanctified it.

That led me to earnestly read Paul’s letter to the Galatians.
