Singapore On A Mission

Singapore SkylineDaniel pointed to this report (with video) at The Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), which is an insightful and interesting look at Christianity in Singapore.

I don’t know about you, but after watching it, I thought that they seemed to shine this light on Christianity in Singapore more as a response of a well-educated and prosperous populace to a “Jesus-shaped hole in their hearts” (ugh, I cringed writing that!).

Short Takes — Navigational Improvements

Offline coding ftw!Just thought I’d drop you a note that I’ve improved the navigational aspects on the blog so that you’ll now find it much easier to move around.

I’ve styled the sidebars differently for the main page, pages and single pages:

  • You will only see frivolous widgets like Twitter, blog statistics and the like on the main page.
  • On single posts, you will now find it easier to move to the next or previous post — the navigation is in the immediate right sidebar. You can also easily check out posts related to the current post, or just click right over to any of the recent posts I’ve written on the outer right sidebar.
  • Sidebar content is also kept to a bare minimum on pages.

I hope you’ll find the changes beneficial; I had a ton of fun learning some new aspects of coding for WordPress themes. :)

Shabbat Shalom.

I Serve The King Of Kings!

Amen! Amen! Hallelu et Adonai!

… at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

– Philippinans 2:10-11

I am also reminded of Paul’s joy when he describes how he, despite all his accomplishments, count nothing more precious than following Christ Jesus — a joy even in suffering for His sake that we too should have!

But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ

Philippians 3:7-8

Amen!

Shalom Aleichem.

Death Row

Death RowThe empty hallway with its closed and heavy steel doors on either side have always made you uncomfortable, but as chaplain at a high-security prison where inmates headed for execution as punishment for the heinous crimes they have committed are held, you know it’s your duty to minister to those 24 hours away from death.

You walk up to a cell where such an inmate is held in solitude. He looks up at you as you enter, sneers, then resigns himself to the moral preaching (as he calls it) he knows he has to listen to shortly before his time on earth is up.

Without a word, you press into his hands a book by a famous author in Christendom and exit the cell.

The prisoner looks down at the title, and it says “Your Best Life Now!”.

Short Takes — Blog Comments

I really appreciate the many comments left by the regular readers of my blog, so here are two additions I’ve installed to make it more fun and rewarding for them and to encourage more feedback:

Smile! You’re On Candid Camera!

Well, not exactly, but there is now a plethora of smilies to choose from — 55 to be exact — when you wish to express an emotion in your comment. I first saw the plug-in at Michelle’s blog then also at Casey’s too, so I thought it’d be fun to add it.

Big thanks to Casey for pointing me to the plug-in and kindly sending me the missing smilies file and his definitions by email!

All You Need Is (Link) Love

Now, whenever you leave a comment, a plug-in called CommentLuv will attempt to pick up your latest post off your blog’s RSS feed and display it along with your post.

The only downside might be that comments take some time to get posted because the plug-in will first go grab your latest post before writing it. If you find that it’s sluggish, just turn it off by un-checking the box below the comment form that enables/disables the function (see picture below).

Comment Form on Joie de Vivre

Have fun, and oh!, leave me a comment with your opinion of the additions. :P

Shalom Aleichem.

The Most Under-Rated Man In The Bible And The Most Dangerous Woman In The World

JosephHave you ever wondered who the most under-rated man in the Bible is? It certainly isn’t John, or Joshua, or James, but his name also begins with a “J” when anglicized.

Here’s who: Joseph.

No, no, not the Joseph who served the Egyptian pharaoh and therefore saved his father Jacob and his own family from famine, but the Joseph who married Mary and fathered other children with her, among whom is James the half-brother of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I mean, this man Joseph is seldom mentioned in sermons on obedience though I think he must have been one of the most obedient servants. When he was asked to marry Mary, his betrothed who was then with child, he didn’t say “no”. Neither did he refuse to flee to Egypt when told to do so.
